NYC charter schools are in jeopardy of losing access to Vanguard — a service that allows charter schools to contact ALL NYC parents to let them know about ALL the education opportunities available to them.
In recent weeks, the mayor and NYC public schools have signaled a major policy reversal that would limit NYC families’ access to information about public schools and have a dramatic effect on charter schools’ ability to inform families of their educational options. We believe every New York family has the right to find the best school for their children.
We must keep a steady drumbeat of messaging letting the Mayor know that #ParentsNeedtoKnowabout ALL public education options available to them.
We are asking all who are in our ICS families, and everyone who supports charter schools to take two actions repeatedly from May 2 to May 10:
- Call the City Hall switchboard (212-788-1400) and protest their proposed action. Tell them #ParentsNeedToKnow. There is a sample script in the parent flyer.
- Tag @NYCMayor on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) using the hashtag #ParentsNeedToKnow. We have created a social media toolkit with resources to drive your posts. Sample tweets are also included on the attached flyer.
See this flyer for more information.
